Now that I officially office in my bed, deciding what to wear in the morning should be really easy, right? Not so much. Since becoming a full-time freelancer, it actually feels more difficult to decide what to wear every day.
How is this possible? You might ask. Why don’t you just wear your pajamas? Don’t get me wrong, there are definitely days where this is the case, but after a while the novelty of wearing your PJs all day, every day starts to wear off.
There’s definitely something to getting up, putting on a little make up, wearing a fresh outfit and eating a good breakfast. It just makes me feel productive and like I’m going to have a good day. This is why I decided I had to find some kind of outfit that I could feel comfortable in, but still put together.
Now, I’m not one of those freaks who considers jeans comfy lounge clothes, so those were out almost immediately. What does leave? Leggings. AKA God’s gift to womankind. I have more pairs of leggings than I’d like to admit, especially between work out leggings and the kind you can dress up and real pants.
Plain, black leggings are like a blank canvas and you can wear absolutely anything with them. My favorite pair is from Gap. They’re almost like a jersey material — soft, yet not pajama-like. I wanted to step it up a notch, though, so I went on the hunt for leggings with a little bit of detail to make them look even more like real pants.
Cue these amazing leggings from J Crew. The zipper really gives that “real pants” vibe and it’s gold, which is a fave metallic of mine. I also have a much thicker pair (very good for winter) from Gap that have a zipper on them as well, but I bought them a few years ago. The zipper on the Gap pair is silver, so it’s good to have a little variety.
So anyway, these leggings are perfect for lounging on the couch while I work the day away. What could make it better except a big, cozy cardigan? This one from Target is amazing. I have it in two colors. And the linen shirt is from Gap (you’ll notice I’m a big Gap fan), which is another thing I have multiple colors of.
Basically, when working from home and in doubt of what to wear — reach for the nearest pair of leggings and a cute top that layers well. It’s worked decent for me so far, but we’ll see how long it takes me to have another pajama day.
